Tagara Group awarded Federal Safety Commissioner Accreditation
July 2011
Thanks to the persistent and dedicated commitment of a number of employees, Tagara Group was awarded Federal Safety Commissioner Accreditation in July 2011. Leading the effort was Joe Neubauer and Dr. Nov Markovic, however the UNO Apartments project team was key to achieving a very creditable result on the first audit, subsequently closing out the re-audit process in a matter of a few weeks. The enhanced Work Health, Safety and Welfare system we've created will be quickly and effectively rolled out across all sites to pursue our fundamental goal of ensuring every worker goes home safely to their families each and every day. The accreditation pits us alongside only a dozen other principal contractors in South Australia (out of a total of about fifty) who are accredited to undertake federally funded project work.
On 1st January 2012 all work health, safety and welfare legislation across Australia will be 'harmonised'. That is, each state will enact WHS&W laws that are consistent (at least for the most), in their wording and application, as well as penalties for non compliance. Many parts of the South Australian Act will change, requiring employers to review their policies and procedures, and their risk profiles. Responsibility and liability under the new law will extend deeper into the management structures of organisations, possibly changing the way in which they operate on a daily basis. In addition, unions will have greater rights to enter workplaces without notice, merely on suspicion of a breach of the law.
