Tullio Tagliaferri and John Kassara commenced the operations of Tagara Builders on 3rd August 1992 from John’s home garage, and operated from there until June 1994 when the company moved to premises at Trinity Gardens. By March 2004 the company employed over one hundred permanent staff and the move to Glynde followed in November that year. Though the first projects were mainly residential in nature, with some commercial and insurance work in the job mix, the company’s focus has changed over the years. It now competes essentially in the commercial construction sector of the building industry, and also provides responsive maintenance services for corporate clients, and acts as a sub-contractor in the concrete trade. The range of work includes the educational, medical, prison, retail, hospitality, community, heritage, visitor centre, fit-out, and design and construct sectors. The company achieved Quality Assurance accreditation in 1996 and currently satisfies the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. In April 2005 the company satisfied the requirements of Workcover’s SABS Occupational Health and Safety Management System, and won a Workcover award for Continual Improvement in Safety in 1999. In November 2007 Tagara achieved accreditation to the OHS&W standard, AS 4801:2001, and expects accreditation to the National Safety Commissioner’s requirements, and Environmental Management standard ISO 14001:2004 by December 2009.
